As a beginning to the following series of blogs I thought that it would be nice to give a little introduction to who I am.
My name is Duke and I am a Mechanical Engineering major at Chico State. I just transferred from Santa Rosa Junior College for the spring 2008 semester. So Chico is a new experience for me to say the least. I chose Chico because of the excellent engineering program and because of the lifestyle that is present here. I know your thinking that I am talking about the party scene here, but I am actually referring to the great outdoor activities that surround the area.
My main enjoyment in life it experiencing the amazing outdoors. There are a few different ways the I like to do this. the main is on a bicycle. I have been racing road bikes (yes, I wear lycra and shave my legs) for about 8 years. I find the act of riding a bike one of the most mind clearing and body rejuvenating things that I can do. One of my other favorite activities is snowboarding. Its not only the sliding through vast expanses of pillowy white stuff that I like, but it is the way that the cold mountain air rushing by my face makes me feel. For me, it is one of the most freeing feelings.

Another of a passions is cars, mainly old Datsun 510's. I use the car for autocrossing, which is a type of timed racing that usually takes place in parking lots. I enjoy this type of racing because it requires total concentration. For the minute that you are carving through the cones, nothing else is on you mind except the task at hand. That type of total concentration is one of the things that I live for.![]()
So that’s me in a nut shell. If you have any questions just ask. Till next time.

What a passion for life. I used to snowboard, but have not been in a couple years. I guess the only thing you and I have in common so far then would be the shaved legs.
A Datsun 510 huh. . .I used to have a 710 and we called it the "green booger". I grew up in the North State and have many friends that ride professionally. . .although I gave up cycling on a daily basis, I still had seven bikes till I moved to Chico. Was able to sell a few of them to collectors. But anywho, welcome to the North State. . .and trust me if you think Chico has a lot to offer outdoors you should travel north!!
Welcome to blogster.
You are brave, sir. First, you stand up in front of the class and serve as our technological guinea pig. Then you willingly admit to shaving your legs. I dare say I'm impressed.
