There is an obvious division in the modern world. There is a very distinct sense of east and west that is amplified by the military conflicts that are happening right now. Divisions have always been there, but as the world becomes smaller thanks to globalization many of those divisions have crumbled. The so called “clash of civilizations” is something that has always existed in the world, but in recent years, has greatly subsided. I think that in the future our society will move beyond this division and the culture clash that exists.
As evidenced by my last two blogs about globalization and the language I am a big believer in a unified world. In our modern society, information flows faster than it has ever before and people are more connected to each other than we ever thought feasible. At any time, a person can pick up a cell phone and be instantly connected to virtually any place in the world. This connectivity is making places that at one time seemed so foreign and distant almost like home. Where at one time the thought of going to China or Japan was almost unthinkable because of the cultural differences and the language barrier, now virtually anybody can just pick up and go anywhere they want. In the future this will apply to the whole world as all cultural barriers are broken down by globalization.
Another contributing factor to the breaking down of cultural barriers is the level of education about the varied cultures in the world. In the modern countries of the world children are taught about all the different societies in the world. This education leads familiarity, and familiarity helps break down the barriers. Children these days are growing up in an international world, much different than that of even the generation before them. Just imagine what the next generation will be like.
In the future, all the different world cultures will be so connected that the barriers that exist between them now will be broken down. I see a world that does have its differences, but everybody is so connected that the cultures are very familiar with each other that there are no barriers. This lack of barriers will allow the world to move beyond the clash of civilizations that exists today.
